Granny Squares are the base of many crochet projects. The possibilities are endless and there are many methods to complete the simple granny square. Today I will be showing you TWO techniques for the Granny Square that I often use in some of my free blanket patterns.

The GRANNY STITCH granny square is a traditional method to complete these squares, and are featured in many projects across the crochet community.  The Summer Sunset Granny Square Blanket and the Christmas Wreath Blanket are two free patterns available here that use this method.  As for the SOLID Double Crochet granny square, it gives a more modern spin to these squares.  You can find this technique used in beginning of  The Rainbow Spiral.
